MRC Kuching’s month-long virtual run targets RM30,000

-

The Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Kuching District is organising the ‘Run to Save Lives 2.0’, set for next month.

According to MRC Kuching chairman Datuk Dr Abang Rauf Abang Zen, the month-long virtual event is being held in connection with the World Blood Donor Day, which falls on June 14 every year.

He also highlights the organiser’s target of raising RM30,000 from this event.

Dr Abang Rauf says the objectives of this programme are to draw public attention to the importance of blood donation; to promote walking for good health; as well as to raise funds meant to cover the costs involved in MRC Kuching operations such as handling the coordination between donors from various organisations and Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) blood bank, preparing certificates and also tokens of appreciation for successful donors, and recruiting blood donors and also volunteers.

“The blood donors’ recruitment service is one of our (MRC Kuching District’s) core services for the community.

“The aim is to raise public awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products to save lives, as well as to thank all the blood donors for their unselfish and invaluable donation,” he saidat the launch ceremony for ‘Run to Save Lives 2.0’ here yesterday.

Registration for the virtual run is open until June 30, and participants may register by clicking https:/qrgo.page. link/1EsVp to access the e-entry forms.

The participants are requested to submit their accumulated record of walking or running up to 14.6km, from June 1 to 30, such as photo record of the treadmill screen or the handwear speedometer screenshot as proof of activity.

The deadline for submission of these records is this July 5.

“The MRC Kuching District will issue e-certificates to all qualified participants by July 15 via email. All participants are kindly requested to pay a virtual run registration fee of RM10 each.

“We also welcome voluntary donations of any amount. The money raises would be fully utilised to support our blood donation recruitment services,” said Dr Abang Rauf.

Payment can be made directly to MRC Kuching District’s Public Bank account number 3112-8858-09, or via Sarawak Pay made payable to ‘Malaysian Red Crescent, Kuching District’ (search under ‘Merchant Listing’).
