10 feared killed in blast inside quarry in India’s Andhra Pradesh

NEW DELHI: At least 10 workers were feared killed yesterday in a blast inside a limestone quarry in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, Xinhua news agency quoted the officials.

The blast took place in Mamillapal­le village in Kadapa district, about 291km southwest of Amaravati, the main city of

Andhra Pradesh.

“This morning a blast took place in a limestone quarry here after a detonator went off accidental­ly. Some people have got killed and their body parts are strewn in the hilly area,” an official said. “Ten people are said to be missing after the blast and five bodies have been identified.”

Following the blast, authoritie­s rushed police teams to the spot to carry out rescue work.

“The search is still ongoing,” the official said.

The victims are said to be workers working in the quarry.

Reports said immediatel­y after the blast family members and relatives of the workers rushed to the quarry to search for their missing ones. — Bernama
