MCMC urged to improve internet coverage in Limbahau

-

KOTA KINABALU: Limbahau community development leader Datuk Johnny Mositun is urging the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to improve internet coverage in the constituency.

This is because there are still areas in Limbahau, which is in Papar, that lack such facility, he lamented.

“MCMC can perhaps look into areas where it can construct telecommunication towers or instal some type of facility that can provide internet connection to residents there.

“Nowadays internet connection is very important as not only do students use it for their studies, it is also widely used for businesses,” said Mositun after presenting 300 SIM cards to pupils of SK Gana in Kampung Gana Papar.

The Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Limbahau chief also extended his appreciation to the government and MCMC for installing three telecommunication towers at Kampung Gana, Kampung Tanaki and Kampung Mandalipau in Papar.

Mositun said this when met at the residence of Ronny Joseph in Kampung Gana, where the handing over of the SIM cards was held.

Ronny is SK Gana’s senior assistant officer (curriculum) and his residence has been installed with Connectme, a satellitebased broadband service that provides internet access within a 100-metre radius in the village.

Mositun said he was thankful to Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Yakub Khan for honouring his promise to supply 300 SIM cards for internet usage to the pupils of SK Gana, when he launched the Connectme at Ronny’s residence a few months ago.

“The SIM cards are for the students to use when they study at home and do revision as well as their homework,” said Mositun, adding that his advice to the students was to use the facility provided wisely.

Parents, he added, must also monitor their children and ensure that they do not misuse the SIM cards given to them.
