Continue to adhere to SOP, MP urges Serian Division residents

-

KUCHING: Residents of Serian Division are strongly advised to continue adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to curb further spread of Covid-19 there.

Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot stressed the fact that there were still active Covid-19 clusters in the division, including the newly-declared Mongkos and Tebedu Mawang clusters – indicating taht the people there must be serious in flattening the Covid-19 curve there.

He pointed out the that SOP covered physical-distancing, wearing of face mask at public areas and not holding any social gathering that would involve a large number of people in a confined space.

“As of now, the situation is under control, thanks to the good work done by the relevant authorities such as the Health Department and the police. They have taken steps in conducting contact-tracing and by holding active case detection (ACD) to stop Covid-19 spreading to more people and more areas,” he said.

Riot, however, was concerned with the people crowding Serian town nowadays for festive shopping for the coming Hari Raya and Gawai celebrations.

“Yesterday (Sunday), I was in Serian town and I saw many people flocking the shops there. While I observed that they practised the SOP, I hope such attitude would continue, especially physical distancing and wearing of face mask,” he said.

As of May 10, the two districts under Serian Division, namely Serian and Tebedu, have been categorised as Covid-19’s Red zones.

Serian recorded 114 local infection cases in the past 14 days, while in the ame period, Tebedu reported 43 local infections.

Apart from Mongkos and Tebedu clusters, the other clusters still active in Serian are Chupak, Tarat Tani, Duranda Emas and Rayang.

On another development, Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) reported a total of 335 people in Kampung Mongkos had undergone swab-tests, conducted as an ACD exercise there.

It was carried out by a team of 30 personnel from Ministry of Health, the police and People’s Volunteers Corps (Rela).
