Rep: Make protecting yourself against Covid-19 your priority

- James Ling

KAPIT: The people here should restrict their movement and isolate themselves during the coming Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Gawai Dayak celebration due to the high number of Covid19 cases, said Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit.

He said the people have no choice but to make sacrifices for now for the sake of their loved ones, adding that the time will come when they can celebrate again so long as they stay healthy and safe.

“Let us all cooperate and practise isolation and comply with the standard operating procedures listed by the government. In conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Hari Gawai celebration, all interstate, district and town travel is prohibited. ‘Balik kampung’ is also not allowed. Do not travel out of your place of work or where you live,” he said.

“Our priority is to safeguard our health through full cooperation with the authorities, working together with them to contain the pandemic. It wouldn’t be effective unless we all cooperate. Just follow the guidelines of the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).”

Jamit added that as those who have been infected with Covid19 could be asymptomatic and would only expose themselves to others by moving around.

“My advice this time around is not to have gatherings. If you celebrate, just keep it to your family members and no visiting. Not celebrating will not hurt but if you get infected with Covid-19, you may fall sick and it may even kill,” he said.

Commenting on the new hybrid field hospital set up by the First Infantry Division here, Jamit said the facility was timely due to the number of Covid-19 cases in Kapit.

“Being far away, we are constrained by manpower and facilities to cope with the pandemic. The hybrid field hospital is here to support Kapit Hospital with their medical personal, facilities and equipment.”

The field hospital is managed by 50 personnel of the Royal Medical Corps and Kapit Hospital.

Let us all cooperate and practise isolation and comply with the standard operating procedures listed by the government. In conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Hari Gawai celebration, all interstate, district and town travel is prohibited. ‘Balik kampung’ is also not allowed.
