-

KUCHING: Local welfare nongovernmental organisation (NGO) Hope Place has been selected to be a part of Social Security Organisation (Socso)’s ‘My Future Jobs’ programme, meant to open up employment opportunities for the needy group.

Under this programme, Hope Place together with other selected NGOs, would place drop boxes at their respective premises for job-seekers to ‘drop in’ their work resumes.

Socso’s role would be to assist these job-seekers in finding potential employers.

In this respect, Hope Place founder Kelvin Wan said he recently submi ed some names for the programme and one of them had just been offered a job at a shopping mall here.

“Mandoh Dungking, a recipient of Hope Place aid, had been unemployed since 2019.

“He landed a job as a security guard at a shopping mall here just days a er his name was registered under this programme,” said Wan in a statement yesterday.

He said Mandoh became jobless following a severe injury sustained two years ago, which caused the loss of use of his right hand.

Since then, Hope Place has been delivering food aid to Mandoh’s family, who cares for six young children.

Back on ‘My Future Jobs’ programme, Wan said Hope Place had set up a drop box at its headquarters along Jalan Canna here, and also one each at its ‘Kedai Budget outlets along Jalan Canna and Mile 12 of KuchingSerian Road.

For more information, call Hope Place on 082-505 987 – line is from 8am to 5pm on Mondays to Fridays, and 8am to noon on Saturdays.

All donations are welcome and receipts would be given receipts upon request.

Those wishing to financially contribute to the NGO could perform interbank transfer to Maybank account 5112-8900-1160 – made payable to ‘Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching’; or go to its official Facebook page to obtain its Sarawak Pay QR code.
