FCA president suggests more stringent nationwide lockdown to control pandemic

-

MIRI: A more stringent nationwide lockdown should be enforced to prevent the Covid19 pandemic from continuing to worsen, says president of the Federation of Miri Division Chinese Associations (FCA), Datuk David Goh.

In his statement yesterday, Goh pointed out that the hundreds of cases reported daily in the state showed that the pandemic was no longer under control.

“Since early this year until now, the pandemic situation has not improved. We have also seen other states in Peninsular Malaysia were put under movement control order (MCO 2.0) yet it does not make any difference, whereby the streets are still filled with cars and people lingering in public places.

“I would suggest the government to implement a full lockdown to really focus on breaking the circuit of infection, as that is the only way to put a stop on the current situation,” said Goh.

He pointed out that the government’s hesitation to implement full lockdown, due to objections from local businesses, would further make the pandemic situation worse.

“It is understood that local businesses are suffering from this, but what’s more important is to protect ourselves against the virus. Implementing the MCO halfway would only cause more confusion. Until every district and state is cleared and return to green zone status, it is best to enhance the rules and stop the spread,” added Goh.

He also urged the public to take the pandemic seriously, or risk endangering themselves and loved ones.

“The situation in India is the best example that Malaysians must not ignore, or we will be in similar situation,” he warned.
