State armwrestling championship set for July 10 at CityONE
KUCHING: Premier 101 Armwrestling Club will be organising the Premier 101 Sarawak Open Armwrestling Championship at CityONE Shopping Mall in July.
Its deputy president Dr Stephen Kee Chu Kiong said the state meet is scheduled to take place on July 10, subject to approval by Sarawak Sports Corporation.
Kee, who is also Asia Armwrestling Association president and Malaysia Armwrestling Federation deputy president, said he had written to SSC chief executive officer Dr Ong Kong Swee on the matter in April.
“SSC had encouraged sports associations and bodies to organise more competitions and I am confident of getting a favourable reply soon. We are ready to organise the competition with strict compliance to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines set by the Sarawak Health Department and the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.
“The Sarawak Open is a good platform for pullers in the state to not only display their skills but also to gauge their standard and earn berths to compete in the National Open later this year.
“We are expecting 350 participants from all over Sarawak to join the competition which will be divided into 28 categories and there will also be a champion of champions challenge for 10 categories,” added Kee.
According to Kee, this will be the third armwrestling competition to be organised by the club this year in collaboration with other parties.
