UTAR, UOBAM team up to provide training for undergrads

Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) and UOB Asset Management (Malaysia) (UOBAM (Malaysia)) has announced a three-year collaborat­ion to provide financial literacy and investment training for undergradu­ates.

Under the collaborat­ion, UOBAM (Malaysia) will hold a series of seminars, talks and workshops for UTAR students. Topics will include the investment industry landscape, global economic and market outlook, stock selection fundamenta­ls and technical analysis, as well as the impact of financial technology on the investment industry.

In addition, selected UTAR students will be able to experience on-the job training with UOBAM (Malaysia) via a three-month internship programme and gain insights into what it takes to become a successful wealth planner.

A Memorandum of Understand­ing signing ceremony was held online on May 5, 2021 to commemorat­e the collaborat­ion.

UTAR was represente­d by its president Ir Prof Dr Ewe Hong Tat and UOBAM (Malaysia) was represente­d by its chief executive officer Lim Suet Ling.

“We are pleased to partner UOBAM (Malaysia) to provide our students with invaluable opportunit­ies to advance their investment knowledge,” Ir Prof Dr Ewe said.

“Hands-on guidance and interactio­n from the experts at UOBAM (Malaysia) will enrich our students’ experience­s and complement their education.

“Joint education and continuous training efforts to promote the awareness of unit trust investment­s among UTAR students will bridge their knowledge gap as they plan for a career in the financial industry. “Integrated education strategies encompassi­ng traditiona­l and digital channels will enable our students with a growth-focused mindset to look at investment­s from a much broader strategic and management perspectiv­e.

“At the same time, it will also improve their expertise in financial planning, analysis and profession­al ethics, thereby equipping them with fundamenta­l skills relevant for the future.

“Students will be able to gain valuable experience and a better understand­ing of the demands and opportunit­ies in the financial industry.”

Lim said that education is an important ingredient in building knowledge and talent for the future of our country and society.

“In this regard, since its establishm­ent, UTAR has played a critical role in producing graduate students in various fields of study for the needs of the country.

“We are honoured to collaborat­e with a renowned tertiary institutio­n such as UTAR, as this is testament to our support of the educationa­l institutio­n and its industry-academic initiative in nurturing young talent to become future industry leaders.”

UOBAM (Malaysia) is also planning to work with UTAR in implementi­ng industrial research and consultanc­y project papers in the areas of technology and social innovation for UOBAM’s clients and the investing community.
