Quarantine teachers, students returning to Sabah – LDP Youth chief

-

KINABALU: The government has to consider the proposal to instruct all teachers and students who are returning to Sabah from the peninsula and Sarawak to undergo mandatory two-week quarantine.

Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Youth chief Sim Fui pointed out that the suggestion was made by Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali to curb any potential spread of the Covid-19 virus in the state.

“The government has to consider the proposal. It has to promptly take precautionary measures to ensure that all the teachers and students would undergo quarantine – for the good of Sabah

“Sabah is currently under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) until June 7. During this period, all higher learning institutions will not be operating.

“A quarantine order will ensure that the Covid-19 virus will not spread here,” said Sim in a statement yesterday.

He cautioned that the Covid19 variants from the United Kingdom, India and South Africa have reached the peninsula.

In view of the worrying number of new cases, Sim stressed that the government has to be cautious of the worrying trend.

He said that since the authorities are well aware of the travel history of the teachers and students, the quarantine order could easily be implemented.

He also opined that the state immigration department should tighten their rules to further strengthen the state’s defence against the spread of the virus.
