TEBEDU: The 32 families under quarantine at Ntangan Pasuk Zone, Kampung Tebedu Mawang, were recently presented with food baskets from Tebedu assemblyman Datuk Amar Michael Manyin Jawong.

It was reported by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) that the handing-over of the food baskets took place on May 14, two days after the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) was imposed at the village.

Manyin, who is also Education, Science and Technological Research Minister, advised the affected villagers to adhere strictly to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the EMCO.

He explained the SOPs included staying at home and not leaving the village except for emergency cases during the duration of the EMCO.

“Please practise self discipline. Let’s play our part in breaking the chain of Covid-19 infection,” he said.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) on May 11 announced the two-week EMCO for Ntangan Pasuk Zone, Kampung Tebedu Mawang effective 12.01am on May 12 until 11.59pm on May 25.

On May 8, the Tebedu Mawang cluster was declared as one of the new Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak.

SDMC had reported that it is a community cluster involving two villages in the Tebedu district.

The index case for the Tebedu Mawang cluster is a 47-year-old woman who tested positive on April 39 after being screened at the Tebedu Health Clinic on April 29.

The index case was infected from the community before infecting her family members, close contacts and other casual contacts at three nearby villages. The cluster has also affected two primary schools in Tebedu district.

As of May 17, a total 45 Covid19 positive cases were recorded from this cluster after 131 individuals were screened.

Twenty-five of the positive cases were classified as active cases.
