Covid: Malaysia hits new daily record with 9,180 cases – Health DG

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded the highest number of new daily Covid-19 cases yesterday, at 9,180, bringing the cumulative number of cases to 817,838.

The previous highest number of new daily cases recorded was 9,020 on May 29.

Health director-general, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in his tweet, said that Selangor still recorded the highest number of new cases, at 4,400, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 1,271 cases, Negeri Sembilan with 899 and Sarawak with 406.

Meanwhile, Kedah recorded 417 cases, Sabah (323), Johor (315), Melaka (222), Perak (241), Pahang (214), Kelantan (151), Penang (142), Terengganu (82), Labuan (80), Putrajaya (16) and Perlis (one).

In a statement issued later, Dr Noor Hisham said of the 9,180 new infections reported yesterday, 9,173 were local transmissi­ons involving 7,122 Malaysians and 2,051 foreigners.

Seven cases were imported, involving two Malaysians and five foreigners.

“Recovery cases stood at 5,713 taking the total number so far to 731,193 cases or 89.4 per cent, while there are 80,665 cases now,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said 77 new fatalities were reported, which brought Malaysia’s death toll to 5,980 or 0.73 per cent of the total number of cases.

There are also 959 cases being treated in the intensive care unit, 465 of whom require respirator­y support.

The Health Ministry also detected 30 new clusters, involving 21 in the workplace, four in the community, three in detention centres, one high-risk group in Sungai Jelai Kuala Lipis, Pahang and an education cluster in Jalan Desa Putera, Selangor.
