Sarawak must not breed culture of political corruption — Aspirasi

-

KUCHING: Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party (Aspirasi) has openly disagreed with the call by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak to Gabungan Parti Sarawak(GPS)tosupportPakatan Harapan (PH) in exchange for the Deputy Prime Minister (DPM)’s position be given to Sarawak.

Aspirasi president Lina Soo regarded such offer as ‘window dressing’, but pointed out that it could later become a form of corruption.

She claimed that things would be different under PH rule as it was under Perikatan Nasional (PN), which had been ‘dishing out positions into an already-bloated Cabinet and into governmentlinked companies (GLCs), in exchange for political leverage to shore up more support’.

“The buck must stop here – we must not breed this culture of political corruption,” she said in a statement yesterday.

Soo said the GPS-led state government should play up its ‘kingmaker’s role’, instead of ‘riding piggyback’ just to stay in the federal government with no benefit for the people of Sarawak.

“GPS must listen to the voice of the‘rakyat’ (people).

“I believe that as long as the GPS is able to flex its muscles and shows the political will to act in the interest of the people, only then Sarawak could ride out this turbulence and emerge stronger after the crisis,” she said.

On the latest twists and turns in Malaysian politics after Umno declared its withdrawal of support for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin, Soo slammed these politicians for their ‘unquenchable lust for power’, even while the country is ravaged by the Covid-19 pandemic.
