Dr Annuar: Continue to be vigilant though cases down

-

SIBU: Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee (SDDMC) coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee urges people here to continue to be vigilant despite the drop in positive Covid-19 cases.

Speaking during his Facebook live stream yesterday, he said this was not the time to relax and celebrate. Victory is still a long way away.

Sibu reported only 19 cases yesterday, which bring the cumulative cases to 239 cases for this week.

He said it is the lowest since the outbreak began due to Pasai Cluster earlier this year.

“Although this is the lowest, we have not won, this is not victory yet. It is not a time to celebrate. We must continue to be vigilant,” he said.

He thanked the frontliners for their hard work and the people for their cooperation in fighting the pandemic.

He said this also showed that the Movement Control Order (MCO) was proving effective in bringing the cases down.

Dr Annuar, who is also Assistant Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research, added that once the pandemic is over, the world might not be able to bring the Covid-19 cases down to zero.

“Maybe the cases will be lesser to an endemic level. We might not be able to bring the cases to zero.

“However, at least it will not overwhelm the economy or the health system anymore,” he said.

On the Covid-19 cases detected at Immigration Detention Depot on Thursday, he said the government had to be very serious with the illegal immigrants.

He said they might pose threat as they came without any proper quarantine.

“Now that we have so many variants, we have to be extra careful. We do not want the illegal immigrants to make things worse while our accination programme is doing very well,” he said.

He also announced that the vaccination programme at Dewan Lakis will run from July 14 to 18 for those receiving the second dose.

Those who received notification through MySejahtera to receive their vaccination at Sibu Health office to go to Dewan Lakis instead.

“MySejahtera will not put Dewan Lakis because this is a mobile programme. If you receive the vaccination date on July 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 at Sibu Health office, please proceed to Dewan Lakis instead,” he said.
