Anti-Pandemic Support Fund raises RM160,957 in third week post-launch
KUCHING: The ‘Sarawak AntiPandemic Support Fund’ campaign, launched by the Federation of Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Division Chinese Associations, has entered its third week with more than 2,673 donors and donations amounting to RM160,957.
However, the drive still had a long way to go towards its target of 5,000 donors, said the federation’s head of administrative and record section, Gao Wei Ning, during the second committee meeting conducted via Zoom yesterday.
The federation’s president Dato Richard Wee, who also attended the meeting, expressed his appreciation to the committee members for their dedication in running the fundraiser.
He pointed out that under the leadership of campaign chairman Kuek Eng Mong, the fundraiser had garnered encouraging support from its member associations, private entities as well as the public.
“I believe that the target of 5,000 donors could be achieved as expected – the number of donors could even increase to 6,000 or more,” he said.
In his remarks, Kuek said the results from the past three weeks had clearly proven the spirit of high commitment, cooperation and perseverance amongst the fundraising committee members in carrying out their duties.
“I’m also pleased to see that this campaign has been extended to many towns within Kuching, Samarahan and Serian divisions, and has received positive response from the local community leaders.” Kuek said from the total numbers of donors announced yesterday, 759 donors who contributed a total of RM9,398 are from the coastal towns in Samarahan Division.
He added that those in other towns across Serian Division had been actively involved in this fundraising campaign, and he hoped to receive positive response from the communities there.
Kuek also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the federation’s vice-president Penghulu Liu Chin Seng – also a Spaoh District community leader – for his hard work in mobilising the people in Samarahan towards supporting this fundraiser.
According to a report by Liu, his local community is still working hard to promote the campaign and has given themselves a target of gathering 1,000 donors.
Besides the member associations of the federation, the Chinese Chamber of Commerce Kuching, the Board of Director for Kuching Chinese Primary and Secondary Schools, and their respective Alumni Clubs had been working hard to gather more donors from private business sector, as well as teachers, staff members and students of the schools.
I believe that the target of 5,000 donors could be achieved as expected – the number of donors could even increase to 6,000 or more.
