KAPIT: Hulu Rajang Parliamentary Constituency (P216) Service Centre, in collaboration with Bukit Mabong District Office, has been distributing ‘Food Baskets’ to needy households across Baleh – one of three state constituencies under Hulu Rajang.

The team from the service centre, led by Seta Engkuah, together with councillors Anyi Kumbong and Bakat Gira, grassroots leaders TR Inguh Miut and TR Gare Timbang, as well as Bukit Mabong District Office administrative officers Grace Anyie and Tracy Nyipa, have been making arrangements for the ‘Food basket’ programme since Friday.

The setting-up is for the headmen/chieftains or the security and development committee (JKKK) chairmen of villages/longhouses listed under the food aid programme for Baleh to collect the ‘food baskets’ from the lobby of Bletih State Complex here.

Basket’ grant is allocated to every parliamentary constituency nationwide, including those held by the opposition. It is meant to help provide food to households, especially those in the rural areas, which have been adversely affected by the restrictions under the Movement Control Order (MCO),” said Seta.

He said the RM300,000 allocation would be further divided to accommodate Baleh, Belaga and Murum state constituencies under Hulu Rajang.

“In terms of land size, Hulu Rajang is as big as Pahang, and the population being scattered all over. Thus, the RM300,000 is certainly not enough, but the Hulu Rajang service centre would do its best in ensuring that every household would receive its fair share of food,” he added.

On the directive to have the headmen and chieftains to pick up the food baskets from the Bletih State Complex, Seta said it was necessary in terms of compliance with the restrictions under the present MCO.

On the list of recipients, he said it was based on data from Bukit Mabong District Office and Kapit Welfare Office.

With a value of around RM70, each food basket contains a 10kg pack of rice, a bottle of cooking oil, a 1kg pack of sugar, a package of salt, tea and coffee powder.

It is recorded that Hulu Rajang parliamentary constituency has 3,177 households.
