Club sends donated supplies to 40 families

-

MIRI: Members of Satu Ati Club recently distributed donations to 40 needy families in several areas here.

According to club’s founder and advisor Thomas Inau, the donations were raised in response to families putting up white flags to signal that they were in dire need of assistance.

“Even though our contribution is small, we hope it could help lessen their burden,” he said, adding that such activity was nothing new for the club.

Satu Ati Club has been reaching out to many families in need since its establishment in March 2019. To date, the club has over 120 members, mostly from the Dayak community.

“The club’s main mission is to help less-fortunate members of society, especially those from the Dayak community.

“But the main objective of our charity activity this time around is to ‘bring down th white flags’ put up by those in need, irrespective of who they are,” said Thomas.

Some of the areas visited were in Pujut, Tudan and Senadin, where several white flags had been raised and among items given to the families were food and basic daily essentials.

“We managed to identify and give out aid to 40 needy families. We actually prepared almost 50 sets to be given away,” said Thomas.

About 10 club members took part in delivery of food aid, led by the secretary Manuel Awell.

“I know there are many other families putting up white flags throughout the city. We hope other generous individuals could also come forward and help whenever they come across these white flags,” added Thomas.
