Career advantage with University of Reading Malaysia

-

THE priority for many parents with regards to study options at university is the career and job opportunities available to their child upon graduation.

In an era of economic uncertainty, exacerbated by the global pandemic, students are advised to carefully consider careers that are in high demand from employers and which provide attractive long-term career prospects.

At the same time, parents should also consider the interests of their child and what their strengths and weaknesses are.

For example, someone who is poor in mathematics may think twice about studying finance at university.

Parents should also consider whether the degrees offered have relevant industry and professional recognition, and the extent to which the institution supports industry placements and internships.

The University of Reading in the UK is recognised in the Top 100 for International Outlook by the Times Higher Education (THE) 2021.

At the university’s branch campus in Malaysia, located in EduCity Iskandar Johor, students get the best of both worlds

– the same highly –respected University of Reading degree but at 40 per cent of the overall estimated costs compared with studying on the UK campus, taking into account fees and living expenses.

The campus in Malaysia focuses specifically on programmes that provide students with excellent career prospects.

Take, for example, the university’s renowned, tripleaccredited Henley Business School.

For students interested in chartered accounting, the school has partnered with ICAEW (the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) in a unique collaboration called HIP – the Henley-ICAEW Programme.

With HIP, students graduate with three qualifications rather than one.

Students not only get a BSc Accounting and Finance degree, but also the ICAEW Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (CFAB), and the BFP (Business and Finance Professional) designation after their name.

Students also benefit from a full 12-month work placement in Year 3, where they gain valuable work experience and are put on a fast track to ICAEW ACA chartered status.

The real estate industry provides significant career opportunities in areas such as real estate investment, asset management, property management, valuation and planning.

Real Estate and Planning at Henley Business School is ranked UK No.2 for ‘Land & Property Management’ and No.1 for ‘Graduate Career Prospects in Land & Property Management’ according to the Complete University Guide 2021.

Additionally, it is accredited by the Royal Institute of Surveyors Malaysia and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors in the UK.

Heriot-Watt offers UK education, experience, and quality, without having to fork outexorbitant fees.

It is an excellent stepping stone for me to pursue my postgraduate studies in the UK and eventually venture into an international career or even be an entrepreneur.
