No death, new cases drop to 352 yesterday — SDMC

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 352 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, said State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily Covid-19 statement.

It said Sarikei District recorded the most cases at 65, followed by 64 in Kuching and Saratok (29).

“Lubok Antu and Sibu recorded 19 cases respective­ly, Meradong had 18 cases, and Telang Usan, 17. Mukah, Serian and Sri Aman recorded 16 cases each. Subis recorded 15 cases, Bintulu and Miri recorded 13 cases each, Tatau with nine cases, Bau (six), Samarahan with five cases, Kapit and Tebedu recorded three cases each, and Lundu, two cases. Asajaya, Pusa, Sebauh and Selangau each recorded one case.”

The remaining 17 districts – Belaga, Beluru, Betong, Bukit Mabong, Dalat, Daro, Julau, Kabong, Kanowit, Lawas, Limbang, Marudi, Matu, Pakan, Simunjan, Song and TanjOng Manis – did not record any new case yesterday.

Overall, this brought the cumulative Covid-19 cases in Sarawak to 68,599.

On the breakdown of the new cases, 160 were detected from individual­s who were in contact with positive Covid-19 cases (out of which eight of them exhibit symptoms); 133 were from existing clusters (only one showing symptoms); 38 were screening of individual­s with symptoms at health facilities; 20 were other screenings in health facilities (one showing symptoms); and one involving an individual who returned from Kuala Lumpur.

On a positive note, SDMC said 386 cases had recovered and been discharged from the hospital yesterday, bringing total recoveries and discharges to 58,401 – or 85.13 percent.

Miri Hospital and its Covid19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) discharged 93 cases; Serian PKRC (62 cases); Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and its PKRC (55 cases); Kapit Hospital and its PKRC (48 cases); Mukah PKRC (46 cases); Sibu Hospital and its PKRC (31 cases); Bintulu Hospital and its PKRC (19 cases), Betong PKRC (17 cases); Sri Aman Hospital and its PKRC (12 cases) and Sarikei Hospital and its PKRC (three cases).

Currently, there are 9,558 cases in Sarawak that are still active.
