No comment from Tiong on call for his post as special envoy to be scrapped

BINTULU: Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing appeared uninterested in entertaining the call by Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi for the former’s post as special envoy to be scrapped.

“Never mind, let it be – I just try my best to do what needs to be done,” he said in his brief reply to The Borneo Post when prompted for comments.

Mohd Puad, in his post on social media yesterday, called for Tiong and PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang to be stripped of their posts as special envoys.

Tiong, who is the president of Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and a five-term MP, was appointed as the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to the People’s Republic of China in 2020.

He previously served as the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to East Asia from 2014 to 2018.

With this ministerial-level role, Tiong was responsible for strengthening bilateral ties between both countries, in terms of commerce, trade and investments.

According to Mohd Puad, now is the time for the government to take new steps to avoid waste.

Following the appointment of Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as Deputy Prime Minister, he said there was no need to retain the four senior ministers introduced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin last year.

“This is wasteful and there is no teamwork,” said Mohd Puad.

Apart from Ismail Sabri (succeeded by Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Husein), other senior ministers are Bersatu vice-president Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Jidin, former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, and PBB vice-president Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
