PPV Stungkor Health Clinic to speed up vaccination in Opar, says govt official
LUNDU: The vaccination centre (PPV) at Stungkor Health Clinic, which was opened on July 10, would expedite the vaccination drive in Opar state constituency, said Ministry of Local Government and Housing (MLGH) senior principal assistant secretary Billy Sujang.
He said this latest PPV was set up under the vaccination outreach programme following comments by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah about the relatively low vaccination rate in Opar.
According to Billy, Uggah who is also Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman, gave the remark during a visit to the PPVs at Dewan Masyarakat Lundu and Dewan Mahligai Gading Lundu on July 6.
“Following that, I suggested to him (Uggah) to hold a vaccination outreach programme by using Stungkor Health Clinic as the PPV for the Opar state constituency.
“The proposal was agreed upon and preparations were immediately made, with the cooperation from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MoH) and the Lundu District Office,” he said yesterday.
Billy, who is also section head of MLGH’s public health, environment and enforcement unit, said this latest PPV had a target to inoculating 1,002 recipients from 17 villages around Opar.
Among the villages are Kampung Stum Muda, Kampung Stungkor Baru and Stungkor Lama, Kampung Raso 1 and 2, Kampung Bokah, Kampung Simpang Bokah, Kampung Siluk,
Kampung Perian, Kampung Bitokan 1 and 2, Kampung Selampit 1 and 2, Kampung Senibong, Kampung Bukit Papan, as well as Kampung Sebandi Hulu and Sebandi Hilir.
“Following the opening of this PPV, the number of residents in Opar who had been vaccinated increased by almost two folds.
“The villagers from the 17 villages welcome the vaccination drive at Stungkor Health Clinic, since it is closer to go to from their houses,” said Billy.
Deputy State Secretary Datu Ik Pahon Joyik, who is also SDMC deputy chairman, came to witness the vaccination process at Stungkor Health Clinic last Saturday.
He was accompanied by Lundu District officer Gustian Durani.
