GPS’ support for Muhyiddin will only prolong people’s suffering, says DAP Sarawak chief

-

Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS)’s support for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin would only prolong the suffering of the people and cause more lives to be lost unnecessarily, more business to go under and more people to become unemployed, said Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen.

Therefore, he added, the call for Muhyiddin to resign as Prime Minister was not politicking, but meant to put a better person to take charge of the country for the sake of the people.

He said it was ‘fallacious’ for Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to say ‘now not being the time for politicking’.

“The Prime Minister and his Cabinet are the policy-makers of the country. The government civil service executes the policies set by the Cabinet. When the Cabinet decides on the wrong policies, the country moves towards a wrong direction. When the Cabinet doesn’t know how to decide on policies, the whole country becomes ‘directionless’.

“Muhyiddin and his Cabinet have proven themselves to be incapable and ineffective in managing the country in this Covid-19 pandemic. That is the reason why many have called for his resignation.

“No doubt, there may be some who want him to resign for personal reasons, but the great majority of Malaysians including Sarawakians want him to resign because of his failure to manage the Covid-19 situation in this country,” he said.

Chong, who is Stampin MP, added that knowing that Muhyiddin and his present lot of federal cabinet ministers were incapable of managing the country, and continuing to support such a failed government, would be ‘suicidal’ for the country and her people.

“That is exactly what Abang Jo (Abang Johari) and the GPS are doing. Therefore, not only the calling for the resignation of Muhyiddin is not politicking, but it is essential for the country to move forward especially in this challenging time when everyone is suffering,” he said.

Recently, GPS had reached a consensus to back the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government under the leadership of Muhyiddin.

Abang Johari, who is also GPS chairman, announced this after a press conference at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarters here.

Reasoning that this was not the time for politicking as it would undermine the stability of the country, the Chief Minister also went on to say that this should be the time for Malaysians to consolidate and unite, and bring the country out of the pandemic crisis.
