Federation’s food aid programme has nothing to do with politics – President
KUCHING: The food aid programme run the Federation of Chinese Associations of Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Divisions is not associated with any political entity, stresses its president Dato Richard Wee.
He points out that the federation always strives to provide assistance upon receiving requests from any quarters, be they governmental, political, charity or communitybased organisations.
“If there are political parties that observe some communities in their constituencies need urgent assistance, the federation would gladly send out food aid and other assistance through their networks,” said Wee when met after monitoring the handing-over of 70 food packs at SMK Sungai Maong here yesterday.
Adding on, Wee said he would not want the federation’s Covid19 relief effort to be dragged into some political conflicts.
“Our activities have no political agenda at all.
“I must stress again that the federation would provide the necessary assistance, within our means and capability, should there be requests made by political bodies.
“This is in line with our federation’s key mission of providing relief aid to victims of disasters, including floods and fires, and all communities would be supported regardless of race, religion and political affiliation.”
Meanwhile, the federation’s disaster relief officer Kapitan Ethan Tan said their organisation had received contributions from various channels meant to be distributed to the needy communities.
“During this time of pandemic, the federation has stepped forward and been working closely with other sectors to complement all efforts in weathering the pandemic and supporting society,” said Tan.
The federation’s deputy president Dato Wong Tiong Hock, its executive advisor Michael Teo and Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) member Sih Hua Tong were also present at the event in SMK Sungai Maong here yesterday.
