MIRI: A car accident victim here could not express in words her gratitude to all the Good Samaritans who had helped cover her medical bills while undergoing treatment at the Borneo Medical Centre (BMC) here.

Lee Siaw Pei, 24, underwent surgery last Saturday and the doctors told her that they were optimistic about her recovery.

Lee said she was thankful to all those who had contributed, including Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Sarawak Datuk Sebastian Ting, who had gone above and beyond to help her and her family.

“We thank everybody, including the medical specialists and BMC personnel, for making this operation successful,” said this mother of four children, aged between two and eight.

In the accident that occurred on Jan 1 this year, Lee was hit by a car while riding her bicycle.

The impact from the crash caused a fracture in the bone of her right arm.

Lee, who is from from Sibuti, and her husband, Seng Ang Kalinah from Sibu, do not have stable jobs. The couple sell scrap metal and also fruits by the roadside to make ends meet.

Their house in Lambir is without electricity supply.

They use water from a nearby pond for their daily needs such as bathing and washing clothes.

In his remarks, Ting who is Piasau assemblyman thanked all those involved in helping Lee.

“Miri has always been blessed with warm and generous people, who are willing to come forward, hand over donations and provide help,” said Ting.

The assistant minister also assured Lee that arrangements would be made to ensure that her children have proper education.

“At the same time, we would discuss with the couple about placing their children under a church group,” he added.

It is reported that Lee has been given the Covid-19 vaccine at the KPJ Miri Specialists Hospital.
