- Cindy Lai

MIRI: The seventh industrial vaccination centre (PPVIN) in Miri Division at Woodman Plantation will begin to dispense vaccines beginning today, said Miri Division Disaster Management Committee (MDDMC).

Minister in charge of MDDMC, Datuk Lee Kim Shin, said the new PPVIN, which was recently approved by Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF), will be dispensing a total of 1,339 doses of vaccine.

“With the PPVIN to be operational tomorrow, the plantation’s management has been informed to ensure that all its workers including foreign workers are vaccinated.

“We have also informed them to include the residents of longhouses nearby the plantation, who have yet to be vaccinated,” said Lee yesterday.

Other industrial vaccination centres in Miri are at Riam Emart, Miri Port, Oil and Gas Lutong, Saremas and SOP Lambir.

Meanwhile, two newly approved PPVINs at SOP Tinbarap 5 in Beluru District and SOP Subis Galasah in Subis District will be operational soon, bringing the total number of PPVINs in Miri Division to nine.

Lee said that the PPVIN is part of MDDMC’s effort to accelerate the vaccination process, to achieve herd immunity against Covid-19 virus by the end of August, as announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg recently.

Also present at the Woodman Plantation PPVIN simulation were Jamalie Busri representing the Resident of Miri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusuf; Miri Division health officer Dr P. Raviwharmman Packierisamy; Miri Hospital director Dr Jack Wong; representative of National Security Council (MKN) Sarawak Matthew Dominic Barin; Borneo Medical Centre’s Medical director Dr Kenny Yeap; and director of Woodman Plywood Sdn Bhd Dato Sri Law Kiu Kiong.
