240 families receive food ration under joint Miri Bomba, NSJA project
MIRI: About 240 families affected by the pandemic received food rations from Love Caring, a joint corporate social responsibility project by Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and Northern Sarawak Journalist Association (NSJA) yesterday.
Bomba Miri chief Supt Law Poh Kiong told the press after presenting food rations that the project targeted families impacted by the Movement Control Order (MCO) since the pandemic hit the country.
“Apart from our work as Bomba personnel, we also actively look out for families in need during these challenging times. There are those who have lost their jobs and families with children struggling to make ends meet. Our intention is to reach out with food rations to bring them some relief,” said Law.
Earlier this month, food aid supported by Miri Fishery Association, Chop Kiat Siang and Persatuan Kebajikan Komuniti Berjasa Miri (PerKKOMB) was distributed to 80 families.
In the second distribution yesterday, the 240 needy recipients in Miri, Batu Niah and Marudi districts were identified through the Single Mothers Association, Welfare Department of Miri, Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak, PerKKOMB and also from information received from the public.
Law thanked Ting Seng Huat Rice Trading Sdn Bhd, Emart Group of Companies, The Twin Brothers Patisserie, and Syazwan Bakery Station for sponsoring rice, sugar, flour, cooking oil, instant noodles, instant coffee, biscuits, bread, and face masks.
Also present at the distribution were Lopeng Fire Station chief Hamdani Madon; Miri Fire Station chief Terry Robson; Marudi Fire Station chief Maureen Sim; Batu Niah Fire Station chief Francis Aceh Angai; NSJA president Andy Jong and PerKKOMB chairwoman Sylvia Ngau.
