Miri Division reports 134 cases, 120 from Tembok Cluster

MIRI: Miri Division reported 134 Covid-19 cases yesterday with 120 cases or 95.24 per cent from Tembok Miri Cluster and six from Miri District.

According to a press statement from Miri Disaster Management Committee (MDMC), Telang Usan reported four cases, Subis (2) and Beluru (2).

The latest addition to Tembok Miri Cluster were the result of repeated testing carried out among inmates of Miri Central Prison who are still being quarantine­d after the prison was put under Enhance Movement Control Order (EMCO) since July 9.

“Up to July 22, a total of 1,005 individual­s comprising prison inmates and staff, their family members and their social contacts, have been screened.

“All have been ordered to undergo quarantine and to wear observatio­n tag. From the 1,005 people screened, 360 were found positive including the case index, and 365 negative. The rest (280) are still waiting for their test result,” said the statement.

From 360 positive cases, 343 were prison inmates, 7 prison staff and 10 their family members.

All those found positive are being treated at a Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centre (PKRC) which has been set up within the prison compound.

Other cases reported in Miri Division included three who were screened before being sign-on, one who had gone for swab to apply for inter-district travel, one symptomati­c case and one close contact.

Cases reported in Telang Usan were from Lunyim Cluster. It involves four close contacts who have been quarantine­d at a quarantine centre.

“In Subis, the subjects were all close contacts who have been ordered to undergo quarantine and and wearing bracelet while the cases in Beluru involved a close contact of a longhouse placed under EMCO. The other one was a symptomati­c case that was screened.

“All these Covid-19 positive cases have been admitted into Miri Hospital and a PKRC Miri for treatment, observatio­n and isolation.
