Post Covid-19 PCDS best governed by competitive advantages of each division

BINTULU: The implementation of Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 must be governed by the competitive advantages of each division in Sarawak, says Yek Siew Liong the president of Bintulu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCCI).

He said this must include the most economical accessibility in the supply of raw materials, suitable soil and ground conditions, and connectivity to facilitate the export of goods.

“I note with gladness that public capital spending will be on areas that yield the most economic, social and environmental impact,” he added.

He said to develop more high value downstream activities, the government should also assist the existing players to grow. This could be done by mitigating their cost of production in mutuality for the long-term objective.

He also said a racting more supporting industries would make Sarawak a competitive economy in the region.

Yek said this to comment on the PCDS 2030 which was launched by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg in conjunction with the Sarawak Day yesterday morning.

“I applaud the vision for Sarawak to achieve developed status by 2030.

“It is a vision of seven strategic thrusts to propel the economic development in an environmentally sustainable way in six economic sectors, supported by seven enablers to position Sarawak favourably, in particular, for foreign direct investment,” he said.

He said doubling Sarawak’s economy to RM282 billion would provide equal opportunities to all Sarawakians to participate in the overall development and to ensure a healthy environment for all.
