YGXC Best Writer Award provides an avenue for young Sarawakians to engage with the general public on environmental issues through thoughtful and creative writing while YGXC Best Speaker Award hopes to enhance environmental advocacy among the youths through effective public speaking skills.

The four categories are Group A (ages 15-19 years) English Language; Group B (ages 15-19 years) Bahasa Malaysia; Group C (ages 20-30 years) English Language; and Group D (ages 20 to 30 years) Bahasa Malaysia.

The top three winners will get RM800, RM600 and RM300 respectively in 15 to 19 years age group; RM1,000, RM800 and RM600 respectively in 20 to 30 years age group.

“These awards provide youths exciting platforms to voice their concerns, views and recommendations on a number of environmental issues especially those affecting Sarawak”, said NREB Controller of Environmental Quality, Peggy Ronin Edin during the virtual launching.

It is hoped that such activities will eventually spark conversation and continuous positive exchanges between youths and other key stakeholders such as the local authorities, industry players and the media to advocate for environmental sustainability.

“This is to ensure that Sarawak will be on the right path towards truly balanced development that boosts the people’s quality of life”, she said.

Meanwhile, Azam Honorary Secretary and chairman of AZAM Youth Development Commi ee, Mohamad Ariff Irwani Azahari invites youths throughout Sarawak to participate in these two contests.

In conjunction with the virtual launch, a special video broadcast explained the details of the contests, objectives, themes, and cash prizes. Interested youths are advised to check entry forms, rules and regulations to be made available on Azam Facebook Page.

This YGXC programme by NREB is the second to be held to engage youths to play a more active role in preserving the environment in Sarawak as well as include youths in sustainability conversation and action for the long term benefit of the state.
