125 SMK Riam students receive food baskets

MIRI: A total of 125 students of SMK Riam here from low income families received food baskets donated by members of the public through Democratic Action Party (DAP) Miri yesterday.

According to DAP Sarawak secretary Senator Alan Ling, collaborat­ion with schools here had helped donors channel contributi­on to students and families genuinely in need of assistance.

“Teachers know their students background. That’s why we collaborat­e with schools so that the donated items can reached the target group,” he said a er handing over the food baskets in conjunctio­n with Sarawak Day to Lee Pin Lin, teacher in-charge of welfare at the school , witnessed by DAP Long Lama chairman Marcus Hugo.

Ling disclosed that SMK Riam was the first school to benefit from collaborat­ive programme and encouraged schools’ parentteac­her associatio­ns to get in touch with DAP for similar assistance.

He thanked sponsors - The Cage Grill represente­d by Kenny and Nicholas Wong; Fu Kee Chicken Rice, MJ Bakeology and Jenns Cookiehous­e represente­d by Lin Yaw Ting.

Apart from food ration, Ling said DAP Miri had also received requests for gadgets for online learning (PdPR). He hoped the government can look into all these needs of the people

This Saturday (July 24) 100 cupcakes and packets of chicken rice will be available at a food bank set up at Cop Keat Siang fuelling station (opposite Tamu Muhibah)
