MIRI: A 62-year-old doubleleg amputee has received a donation of 6kg dry powder fire extinguisher from Zone 6 Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

Chin Phin Kian had lost both his legs due to vascular blockage that led to virus infection about 18 years ago.

The donation was handed out by Zone 6 Miri Bomba chief Supt Law Poh Kiong to Chin at the la er’s house in Taman Delight, a housing estate behind Miri Airport.

Law said that he admires Chin’s strong spirit, for although he had lost both legs he had managed to work hard by farming and selling vegetables to raise his family and children who have become successful in their education and at work.

“He is a role model to all of us including the OKUs (individuals with special needs) to strive for a prosperous life and help the community as what he has done.

“As Bomba personnel, such spirit should be emulated. Never give up and never rely on others for help, we have to work on our own to live life and take care of ourselves especially during this challenging time,” he said a er visiting Chin at his house recently.

During the visit held in conjunction with a charity programme jointly organised by Zone 6 Miri Bomba and the Northern Sarawak Journalist Association (NSJA), Chin also received donations of face masks and hand sanitizers from NSJA president Andy Jong Wan Joon.

Law gave a demonstration on how to use a fire extinguisher to Chin and his family members.

Meanwhile, Chin expressed his gratitude to Law and Zone 6 Miri Bomba team and NSJA for the contributions.
