KUCHING: The Sarawak chapter of the Veterans Association of the Malaysian Armed Forces (PVATM) yesterday postponed a visit to the grave of a warrior and reciting tahlil (prayers for the dead) for Trooper Rasli Buang, a national hero who was killed while fighting communists 50 years ago.

Kuching PVATM branch chief, Capt (Rtd) Handeri Hashim said the event planned at the Kampung Buntal Muslim Cemetery, about 30 kilometres from here, had to be postponed on the advice of the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) due to the current Covid-19 pandemic.

“The ceremony is postponed to a later date while waiting for approval from SDMC and Sarawak PVATM,” he told reporters here.

The late Rasli was awarded the Seri Pahlawan Gagah Perkasa (SP), Malaysia’s highest award for bravery following his sacrifices for the nation in combating communist terrorists where he lost his life in Tanah Rancangan Belia Perlop, Perak on July 6, 1971.
