Lily Pond set to become Kapit’s next landmark gem — DCM

-

KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing is very pleased with the implementation of the Lily Pond project in Kapit.

He said prior to the rehabilitation works on the historical site, which was established after World War II, it looked ‘almost like a rubbish dump’.

“Three years ago when the Upper Rajang Development Agency (Urda) was formed, I suggested that this place to undergo rehabilitation.

“Now, it’s a gem that the Kapit people can be proud of,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Masing, who is also the Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, recently visited Lily Pond upon his arrival from Bakun, where he inspected the signboard for the site.

“I agreed with the site, the lettering and the design,” he wrote in his Facebook post, which also showed a photo of the sign, worded: ‘Kapit-The Gateway to Endless Discovery; Where Expectation Meets Reality’.

He said the Lily Pond rehabilitation project, costing about RM12 million, was also to turn this recreational facility into an iconic landmark here.

The project is expected to reach completion before the Malaysia Day celebration this year, on Sept 16.

Among the new features of the Lily Pond are a restaurant equipped with a meeting chamber in the middle of the pond, a cafeteria, a theatre, a children’s playground, and a 1km walkway.
