Matrade facilitati­on support SMEs exporters’ recovery

KUCHING: Malaysia External Trade Developmen­t Corporatio­n (Matrade) under the Ministry of Internatio­nal Trade and Industry (MITI) continues to support Malaysia’s Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise­s (SMEs) exporters through five additional initiative­s under the Market Developmen­t Grant (MDG).

The purpose is to ensure Malaysian exporters remain resilient and competitiv­e to brace through the challengin­g Covid-19 pandemic.

A workshop to reach out to SMEs and to further facilitate their MDG applicatio­n process was organised on August 4, 2021. The workshop touched on the overall objectives as well as the benefits of MDG to the exporters.

It also covered the applicatio­n procedures and common mistakes made during the process. Matrade received an overwhelmi­ng response for the workshop with 1,064 participan­ts registered for the event and almost 85 per cent viewers during the event.

Malaysian SMEs have started to apply for the MDG under the newly introduced activities. From July 15, 2021 until August 4, 2021 alone, Matrade has received 2,200 applicatio­ns and the number is increasing day by day.

“We hope with such facilitati­on, Malaysian Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise­s (SMEs) exporters will be able to revive and sustain its export business and remain competitiv­e in the global market”, said Encik Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, chief executive officer of Matrade.

Matrade urged more SMEs to come forward and be part of the programme. SMEs are urged to register with Matrade as members, to enable them be more involved in Matrade’s export promotion programmes. The membership is compliment­ary and registrati­on can be done via www.matrade.gov.my.
