Nominations for EOYS 2021 now open
KUCHING: Nominations for the Sarawak Entrepreneur of the Year Awards (EOYS) 2021 are now open.
The EOYS is organised by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development, Sarawak (Mintred) in association with Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and Ernst and Young (EY).
First launched in 2004, this prestigious awards programme is held annually to honour and acknowledge exceptional entrepreneurial talent and leadership.
The EOYS aims to recognise the best in business in Sarawak, the prime movers that drive the state’s path towards economic growth; recognise the success of up and coming entrepreneurs, who through their ingenuity, ideas, resourcefulness, commitment and hard work, have built their businesses which contributed to the growth of the state’s economy; and encourage the growth of small and medium scale industries in Sarawak.
Emphasis will primarily be on the individual’s attributes over the company’s and in general, cover amongst others, demonstration of outstanding leadership – vision, dedication as well as intelligent risk taking; company milestones with consideration of industry obstacles and each entrepreneur’s ability to overcome adversity; corporate culture, values and incentives; financial performance and growth record; social responsibilities, reputation and contribution to the community that demonstrate the characteristics of a good model corporate citizen; and demonstration of resilience in adapting to the business disruptions.
The categories are Emerging Entrepreneur (business is between 2 and 5 years old or entrepreneur is aged 35 or under at the time of close of nomination), Master Entrepreneur (maintained management excellence over a sustained period, business founded more than 5 years ago), Excellent Entrepreneur(Beyond Sarawak): running a successful business in Malaysia or overseas.
In last year’s event, over 50 entrepreneurs from all over Sarawak have been given this recognition, of which in 2019, the recipients of the Master Entrepreneur category were Dato Sri Law Kiu Kiong, Dato William Tiu Sii Chuon, Dato Dr Ir Mohd Abdul Karim, Kuek Eng Mong, Tan Sri Datuk Ling Chiong Ho and Chan Woon Peng, while the Outstanding Entrepreneurship Award was awarded to Peter Chai.
Under its nominations, the EOYS provides opportunities for networking and accessing valuable media coverage, raising personal and company profile.
For instance, the EOYS Adjudicating Committee has nominated recipients of the EOYS Awards to represent Sarawak at the Malaysia EY Entrepreneur of the Year (EOY) Awards. The nominated state representative has access to a range of events to help the nominee’s company achieve its potential as well as the opportunity to join a group of illustrious alumni.
