KUCHING: The Sarawak Bank Employees Union (SBEU) has donated cash aid totalling RM12,000 to five hardcore poor families and two communitybased rehabilitation centres (CBRCs) in the state, ahead of its 55th anniversary celebration today.

According to SBEU secretarygeneral Law Kiat Min, the assistance is meant to provide some relief to the less-fortunate families and the centres during this challenging time of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“While SBEU continues to strive towards obtaining be er benefits for our members where we managed to get a 10-12 per cent salary increase in 2018, the unions does not forget the less-fortunate members of our society,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He pointed out that SBEU would set aside a portion of its funds every year, especially from the levy collection from its members, for welfare activities as part of its community responsibilities.

“We first establish the welfare fund in 1993 and for the past 28 years, we have handed out assistance in cash and in kind worth more than RM0.5 million.

“Among our many welfare activities are statewide blood donation drive, charity fun run, visits to homes for the aged and participation in open day sales run by charitable organisations,” he added.

Law said other than donations to the less-fortunate folk, the SBEU had also held a webinar on ‘Stress Management and Job Empowerment’, jointly organised with Sarawak Commercial Banks Association (SCBA).

“The objective of the programme was to assist our members and executive grades of 14 commercial banks in enriching their job satisfaction and improving their productivity.

“Overall, 150 bank employees took part in the webinar,” he said.
