Dayak students from lowincome families receive food aid from SDNU Sibu

-

SIBU: Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Sibu branch distributed 178 food baskets to Dayak students from selected primary and secondary schools here over the past weekend.

Its chairman Chambai Lindong said the purpose of the program is to lessen the burden and hardships on the families of these students caused by Covid19 pandemic.

He said the distribution was carried out via drive-through at Akademi Memandu Suria for the students or their parents to collect the food baskets.

“It was also easier to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOP), hence safer for the recipients and the commi ee members of SDNU Sibu to conduct the distribution exercise,” he said in a statement.

Chambai said SDNU Sibu also went to three schools on Monday to distribute the food baskets.

He said the selected students are from families in the lowincome group who work and stay in Sibu.

“They are from 12 primary and secondary schools in Sibu. The students were selected by their respective schools and most of them are rural-urban migrants.”

Additionally, Chambai said SDNU Sibu also distributed food baskets to another 38 households here who are facing hardships caused by the Covid 19 pandemic.

“We wish to record our sincere thanks and gratitude to Senator Robert Lau Hui Yew for supporting the programme with his funds. We also thank the respective schools for helping to select the deserving students,” he said.
