Lions convention a endees donate medical equipment to Sibu Hospital

SIBU: The 58th and 59th Multiple District 308 Lions Convention Commi ee and Council of Governors FY2020-21 on Monday jointly donated three medical equipment to Sibu Hospital.

According to Past District Governor Dato Be y Wong, who is the organising chairperso­n of the convention, the equipment were an Airvo Oxygen machine costing RM24,000, syringe pump costing RM3,300, and vital sign monitor costing RM4,500.

In her remarks, Wong said the Multiple District 308 Lions Convention, originally scheduled to be held here from April 23-26 last year and again in 2021, was forced to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The said convention had registered more than 2,000 Lions a endees. However, such disappoint­ing cancellati­on has somehow benefi ed Sibu Hospital, disadvanta­ged groups, single parents and poor families, all due to the generous sponsors and those Lions a endees who graciously agreed to donate either their sponsorshi­p or registrati­on fees to the said people in need,” she said

She added this generosity was in line with the paramount objective of Lions Clubs Internatio­nal of upholding the spirit of service.

“As the mo o says, ‘We Serve’ and also ‘Where there is a need, there are Lions’.”

Wong also expressed her gratitude to Lions in Region 2 and Region 3 for the full cooperatio­n and assistance given throughout the four years of preparatio­n in organising the MD308 Lions Convention.

Meanwhile, Sibu Hospital director Dr Nanthakuma­r Thirunavuk­karasu thanked the Lions Clubs for contributi­ng the equipment to aid the hospital’s fight against the pandemic. Past district governor Roland Chieng and 1st Vice District Governor Kapitan Connie Loh also spoke during the handover of equipment.
