MIRI: Students from the Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts (FACA) of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) are presenting their products and creative works throughout the monthlong ‘Cetusan Inspirasi Pelajar Tahun Akhir (CIPTA) 2021’, running virtually until this Oct 24. The month-long programme is an annual event for final-year students of the faculty, where they are able to showcase their works to the public through an online platform.

“The event also provides a platform for students to sharpen their understanding of the basics of professionalism in the management of real-scale arts activities. CIPTA 2021 is presenting products and creative works selected from finalyear students’ researches and projects. Visitors would have the opportunity to see the ideas and works that showcase the use of the latest media and techniques,” said the university in a press statement.

Themed ‘Beyond The Space’, CIPTA 2021 focuses on a common goal – to provide a space for artists and art enthusiasts to interpret the featured works of art and then, widely disseminated it to the local community as well as to the international arena.

Among the projects on display is a work from a Fine Arts student named ‘Malon’, which incorporates a still-moving video that carries elements of feminism, and tells about the discrimination and manipulation by men against women. The virtual programme is also set screen a short film by Cinematography students entitled ‘Munsop ra Katanaan’, relating a Murut folklore.

“Since its inception, the exhibition has been a major activity of the faculty, incorporating various aspects of the arts such as music, film, animation, graphic artists, textiles and fashion, industrial design, photography, ceramics, painting and art management,” said Unimas.

Other public-inclusive activities on the programme line-up include ‘Colloquium Session: CIPTA 2021 Best Works’, the ‘Malaysian Film Quiz’, ‘Borak Anak Seni’ (a sharing-session), virtual mini concert, as well as a ‘Let’s Kongsi Tips Programme: Video and Photo Editing Tutorials and Short Film Screening’ run by Cinematography, Animation and Music students.

“We welcome all to the exhibition including students of schools, colleges and institutions of higher learning, and also those from the relevant public and private agencies. We also invite the activists, the observers and the critics of arts, those from the creative industry, as well as entrepreneurs of commercial arts products, to CIPTA 2021, which is also an opportunity for employers to find skilled and high-potential employees,” said Unimas.
