Woman files report over alleged intimidation by loan shark

-

KUCHING: A woman in her late 20s lodged a police report over acts of vandalism at her house which she believes to be the work of a loan shark.

Padawan police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan in a statement yesterday said the woman claimed to have found red paint splashed on her house, her front gate padlocked and a glass window smashed.

The acts were discovered around 11.30pm on Sept 13.

“The victim believes that it is the work of a loan shark as she had been defaulting on her payments,” he said.

According to Aidil, the woman had borrowed RM300 from a moneylender whom she had found on Facebook but was now required to pay back a total of RM8,600.

“The case is being investigated under Section 29B(1) of the Money Lenders Act 1951 for harassment or intimidation of borrower,” he added.

On that note, Aidil advised the public not to apply for any loans from unlicensed moneylenders or from social media websites, but from proper financial institutions or licensed moneylenders.
