- Cindy Lai

MIRI: Driving institutions here are reminded to strictly adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) under Phase 3 of National Recovery Plan (NRP) as part of the efforts to put the Covid-19 pandemic under control.

When conducting an inspection at Akademi Memandu E G Sdn Bhd at By-Pass Road here yesterday, Minister of Transport Datuk Lee Kim Shin stressed that part of the SOPs requires premises operators, staff members and driving instructors to complete two doses of Covid-19 vaccination, and students must show that they have completed the two-dose vaccination, with digital certificate as proof, to be accepted by the academy.

“During training, the instructor and student must wear face mask at all times during lesson. The car window must be lowered down to ensure that the atmosphere in the car is air-ventilated.

“Strict compliance with the SOPs is necessary and inspection will be conducted by Road Transportation Department (JPJ) personnel from time to time,” he reminded.

Lee, who is also minister incharge of Miri Division Disaster Management Committee (MDDMC), further reminded that it is crucial to note that a vaccinated person is still at risk of contracting the virus; therefore, SOP compliance such as social distancing, wearing of face mask, screening body temperature, and washing hands regularly is vital.

Driving institutions are one of the sectors that were allowed to reopen under NRP Phase 3 beginning Sept 1, with strict SOPs outlined by State Ministry of Transport and JPJ.

Also present during the inspection were acting Deputy Resident of Miri Rose Edward Tarang; acting district officer of Miri Edward Tawang; MCC secretary Morshidi Frederick; JPJ Miri head of Driver Licensing Unit Juti Dunggau; Akademi Memandu E G Sdn Bhd manager Chong Kar Soon and Miri Driving Instructors Association chairman Bong Poh Hian.
