-

SIBU: Lions Club of Sibu Pahlawan and Lions Club of Sibu Loving Care here are helping with recycling of household items to reduce the amount of waste at landfill and green up the environment.

“Since 1930, Lions Clubs International has been promoting recycling programmes all over the world.

“I believe that every household has items that can be recycled to reduce environmental pollution,” said Wong Hie Ping, organising chairperson for the donation of old newspapers and cardboard boxes to Sibu Kidney Foundation (SKF), during the brief handing over of recyclables on Saturday.

Since the 1930s, Lions’ Vision Recycling Programme has collected millions of used glasses each year for redistribution to those who cannot afford eye care or glasses in developing countries, disclosed Wong.

She also informed that every year in the month of April, Lions give a month of service as part of the global service action movement to protect this planet.

Also present were Charter president of Sibu Loving Care Peter Goh, president of Sibu Pahlawan Malcom Hii and directors of the both clubs while zone chairperson Dixon Chiu was witness of the project.
