KUCHING: The Sarawak Touch Association (STA) is working closely with the Kuching Football Rugby Club (KRFC) to develop Touch Football in Sarawak and Kuching in particular.

The STA committee, led by its pro-tem president Hafisz Rachman Drahman, had a meeting with KRFC president Ahmad Yusop Shah Moksen and committee members at KRFC clubhouse, Song Kheng Hai Rugby Ground on Saturday.

“We had a fruitful meeting with KRFC and both parties have mutually agreed to cooperate and collaborate in promoting and developing the game.

“This includes KRFC members joining STA as individual members and KRFC joining us as an allied member. We will be organising Touch clinics, workshops and games/ competitions at KRFC field and KRFC will let us use the facilities to organise Touch activities,” said Hafisz.

Some of the activities are awaiting the easing of SOPs by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee once the Covid-19 situation improves further.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Yusop was looking forward to the collaboration between the two organisations.

“Hafisc and some STA members are previous and current members of KRFC and l don’t see any problem of us working together to promote this sport,” he said.

Touch is promoted as nonthreatening, minimal contact, fun and easy to play and suitable for all ages and both genders.

“It is not a costly game because we don’t need goal post or extra equipment or very big space and it can be a popular mass sport, ” said Hafisz in describing the game.

It is played on one half of a football field with six players from each team of 14 players. Players can be substituted at any time during the 40-minute game.

STA, which has 50 members, was registered with Sports Commissioner Sarawak on Aug 18 and is affiliated to the Malaysian Touch Association. Its first official activity – a two-day online Basic Touch Football Clinic conducted by former national player Md Ihsan Ramadham Hendric – attracted 50 participants.
