Agrobank reaches out to EMCO-hit fisherfolk in Kuala Kedah

-

KUCHING: Agrobank has distributed 600 boxes of food to the fishing community in Kuala Kedah, who were affected by the recent Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).

The bankgroup said the food distribution last Friday was a part of its ‘Agrobank dan Komuniti’ programme, in collaboration with the Fishermen Association of Kuala Kedah and the National Fishermen Association (Nekmat).

“The EMCO has made the situation worse whereby the fishing community has severely lost their earnings due to not being able to go out to sea. The situation has also been exacerbated due to the limitation of logistics facilities involving almost all areas in Kuala Kedah District,” said Agrobank in a press statement.

Khadijah Iskandar, covering Agrobank president and chief executive officer, remarked: “Since Agrobank’s inception, it has been in our DNA to assist the ‘unserved and underserved’ communities and in line with our tagline, ‘Sentiasa Di sisi Anda’ (Always By Your Side), we understand the difficulties faced by the fishing community in Kuala Kedah, which had impacted their means of incomes. It is, therefore, hoped that this initiative could alleviate the burden faced by the fishing community.

“The strategic collaboration between Agrobank and Fishermen Association of Kuala Kedah and Nekmat, is a testament of our determination in continuing to help the agrocommunity, especially the fishermen, who are impacted by the current situation, by channelling aid in the form of basic food items such as rice, milk, biscuits, sugar and other necessities, with a total contribution of RM49,000.”

At the ceremony, the donation was handed out by Agrobank Northern Region head of commercial Kamarul Azlan Razak to Nekmat chairman Abdul Hamid Bahari, at the Fishermen Community Hall in the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) Complex in Kuala Kedah.

The bankgroup’s flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme ‘Agrobank dan Komuniti’ is meant to reach out to the local community where any of its bank branches operates in.
