‘Game-changing 12MP defines what’s important to present M’sia, Malaysians’

- Datuk Willie Mongin

KUCHING: The just-unveiled 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) is going to be a game-changer for Malaysia, says Deputy Minister II of Plantation Industries and Commodities Datuk Willie Mongin.

Noting that the 12MP defines ‘what is important to present Malaysia and Malaysians’, the Puncak Borneo MP also believed that the ‘whats and hows’, if fully implemented, should drive the changes to happen.

“I do not want to give any false hope and false sense of progress for now, but let us begin our journey to redirect, rediscover, redefine and restore our growth momentum that had been badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said when asked for comments about the 12MP, announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in Parliament yesterday.

Adding on, Willie said the action plan would benefit Sarawakians as the 12MP, amongst other things, would propel the growth of strategic and high-impact industries as well as the microsmall and medium enterprises (SMEs); eradicate poverty; improve regional balance and inclusion; and boost socioeconomic development in Sabah and Sarawak.

“When you zoom into these strategies, there is a detailed set of development actions meant to make a significant difference in Sabah and Sarawak.

“These actions are targeted at delivering tangible results and ensuring a sustainable impact on Sarawak’s economic potential, ‘green growth’, infrastructure investment, digital transformation, connectivity, improved access to basic necessities and much more.

“All these, if implemented according to the plan, should benefit all quarters in Sarawak, especially the micro SMEs,as well as the people young and old, those in the urban and rural areas alike.”

However, Willie reminded all that ‘there’s no rocket science involved towards achieve these targets’.

“We all have to struggle as a single entity, as unified Malaysians and Sarawakians, proactively. As simple as it is, if some plans were ignored, the others would be less-effective; some of highlypotential economic agenda for our national prosperity could not be optimised.

“Such a policy must move on in a manner that wouldbear the fruit to and for our people,” he stressed.
