Miri mayor congratulates MCC for receiving state honours
MIRI: Miri mayor Adam Yii has conveyed his congratulations to Miri City Council (MCC) over the recent conferment of state awards to its councillors and staff.
Deputy mayor Julaihi Mohamad was given the Johan Bintang Kenyalang (JBK) award from Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud during the investiture ceremony held at Astana Negeri in Kuching on Sept 22.
Additionally, Councillor Warziedea Ahmad and Councillor Romulus Charles Agan Raja each received the Ahli Bintang Sarawak (ABS) award.
Other honourees from the MCC were its secretary Morshidi Frederick who was awarded with ‘Pingat Pegawai Bintang Kenyalang’; treasurer Siti Suhana Rosli (Pingat Perkhidmatan Bakti – Silver); deputy environment health officer Jau Wan @ Harris Jau Wan (Ahli Bintang Sarawak); engineering operations assistant Elizabeth Oyou (Bentara Bintang Sarawak); and public health assistant Muyang Kilat (Pingat Perkhidmatan Terpuji – Bronze).
Yii highlighted the achievement when chairing MCC’s eighth ordinary meeting, conducted virtually via Zoom yesterday.
The mayor also congratulated the MCC over receiving the Gold Award in the Ninth Chief Minister’s Environmental Award 2019/2020 (CMEA) under the category of ‘Local Authority (City Council)’.
Morshidi and his team represented the council in accepting the award from Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg at the presentation ceremony held in Kuching on Sept 13.
Moreover, Yii also commended MCC’s ‘Sirius Prime’ for clinching the ‘Gold Award’ in a competition held in connection with the Regional Innovation Showcase on Team Excellence (RITEx) 2021, of which the virtual ceremony was held on Sept 21.
The council’s team emerged winner of the ‘Best Video Presentation Award’ category through their project entitled, ‘Kesukaran Mengutip Cukai Taksiran Tahunan Tertunggak’ (Difficulties in Collecting Outstanding Annual Assessment Tax).
