I believe that the Health Ministry already has its own standard operating procedures (SOPs) as they are also preparing for Melaka state election.

KUCHING: The state election cannot be avoided as the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) has already expired last June, and it is high time that it was held.

In saying this, Batang Sadong MP Dato Sri Nancy Shukri believes the Election Commission (EC) has decided on the new norm for election as the Melaka state election will also be held soon.

“I believe that the Health Ministry already has its own standard operating procedures (SOPs) as they are also preparing for Melaka state election,” she said when met at a press conference at the Kuching International Airport VIP lounge yesterday.

The federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister said that the government cannot afford to keep people at home.

She added that her ministry had received information that the EC had made preparation in terms of the election SOP; thus, there is nothing stopping the state from holding the election.

As an example, she said her ministry had planned many activities to bring people out to get used to the endemic situation.

“We need to get used to the current situation. Everyone is excited to go out.”

During the upcoming state election, the campaigns will rely heavily on social media, which she said must be used responsibly and wisely.

The DUN’s five-year term expired on June 2 this year, but the election has been postponed following the declaration of Emergency in Sarawak by the Yang diPertuan Agong until Feb 2 next year due to the current Covid19 situation.
