Latest version of Miri coffee table book launched yesterday

-

MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC) launched the latest version of Miri coffee table book ‘Miri – Uniquely Borneo’ yesterday via Zoom.

In his opening speech, Mayor Adam Yii said the coffee table book will be an update with more interesting contents compared to the one that was printed six years ago in 2016.

“Being the local authority of Miri City, this is an ongoing initiative taken by MCC to compliment the efforts of the government through its Ministry of Local Government and Housing and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Sarawak.

“This pictorial book not only provides a relaxing good reading pleasure, we believe that this is one of the effective approaches to introduce Miri City throughout Malaysia as well as the outside world,” said Yii.

Amongst the updates that are featured in the book are urban discovery; local parks and Marina Bay; Miri’s ethnic and cultural diversities and festivities; food culture, and hidden mystery sites that have not been raised in the past.

“Towards the end of this month, the country and Sarawak will enter the endemic stage with new strategies in fighting against Covid-19. More restrictions have been lifted and interstate and likely overseas travel will resume very soon, therefore we are anticipating visitors to begin to visit Miri.

“Hence, this book has come at the right moment, to promote Miri to local visitors and tourists from abroad.

“With that being said, entrepreneurs and industry players of the tourism related sectors must get ready for the influx of visitors,” said Yii.

He expressed thanks to those involved in the project, including MCC’s Tourism Development Standing Committee, working committee for Miri Uniquely Borneo, Curtin University and their production team, associations, organisations, relevant agencies and individuals.

Also present at the virtual launching ceremony were MCC secretary Morshidi Frederick, Cr David Stephen who is also the chair of Coffee Table Book ‘Miri-Uniquely Borneo’ working committee, and Professor Beena Giridharan, Syuhaira Mohd Zin and Roziana Abdul Rahman of Curtin University Sarawak Campus.
