MCC forms taskforce to facilitate S-MM2H for Miri city

Miri City Council (MCC) has formed a taskforce to plan, strategise and facilitate Sarawak’s version of Malaysia My Second Home (S-MM2H) programme for Miri City.

Mayor Adam Yii, in a statement yesterday, said Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister of Local Government and Housing Dato Sri Dr Sim Hui Kian, federal Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Sri Nancy Shukri, and Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot – also the Malaysia Special Envoy to Japan – had, on Sept 28, Sept 29, Oct 4, and Oct 6, respective­ly; and Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Sarawak Datuk Sebastian Ting, had been briefed on the proposed Miri S-MM2H Taskforce.

“Miri is blessed with exceptiona­l condition for the success of MM2H due to several factors such as locality (located by the sea), good developmen­t, harmonious atmosphere of people from various religions and background living together, as well as availabili­ty of quality education, medical facilities, air connectivi­ty and affordable housing.

“The main objectives of the taskforce would be to support the state Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture in developing the S-MM2H programme, to promote the city as the choice location for S-MM2H, to assist and facilitate the programme’s developmen­t, to lead local entreprene­urs to enhance conditions for the developmen­t of S-MM2H, and also to facilitate and expedite related projects here,” said Yii.

The taskforce, to be led by Yii as its chairman, would be assisted by MCC Tourism Developmen­t Standing Committee chairperso­n Councillor Warziedea Ahmad (deputy chairperso­n), Andrew Lau of PARC Shared Office as secretary, and MCC head of public affairs Mohd Zaidi Adrus Razali as the head of secretaria­t.

“The advisors are Datuk Sebastian Ting, permanent secretary to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Hii Chang Kee and Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) chairman Dennis Ngau. The committee members are MCC councillor­s, representa­tives of STB and Curtin University Malaysia, and chief executive officer of Sarawak Trade and Tourism Co Pte Ltd in Singapore, Chew Chang Guan.”

Yii said the first official meeting of the taskforce would be called soon.
