KUALA LUMPUR: Opcom Holdings Bhd has entered into a collaboration agreement with Global Forway Sdn Bhd to form a 60:40 joint venture company (JV), Opcom Vision Sdn Bhd in a move to push into the 5G sector.

In a statement to Bursa Malaysia, the fiber optic cable manufacturer said both Opcom and Global Forway bring complementary expertise and experience to the partnership, which will strengthen the JV value proposition in its tender efforts for contracts.

Opcom chairman Datuk Mazlin Junid said the government had clearly demonstrated its focus towards preparing Malaysia to be a hightechnology based economy through various initiatives and policies, such as those set out in the 12th Malaysia Plan, Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint, and National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA).

“This push towards digitalisation, however, would require improving the nation’s 4G coverage and accelerating the rollout of 5G.

“In this respect, we see various opportunities for us to contribute towards the government’s digital aspirations for the country,” he said.

Mazlin said Global Forway has the necessary licences and expertise for Opcom to expand its suite of services to include value-added services.

“These services include connectivity services involving dedicated internet access and point-to-point leased lines, security services such as managed security monitoring, as well as data centre services encompassing co-location services and data centre internet access to cloud services,” he said.

He added that the collaboration with Global Forway through Opcom Vision would allow the group to leverage its collective expertise to capitalise on the various opportunities, as well as move up the value chain to improve its profitability and create greater value for its stakeholders.
